Mike Alden Appointed Chair of NCAA Leadership Council

Columbia, Mo. -- University of Missouri Director of Athletics Mike Alden has been appointed Chair of the NCAA Leadership Council. Athletics Director at Mizzou since 1998, Alden was a member of the Leadership Council last year and was elevated to his new role for the 2010-11 academic year.

The Leadership Council, which boasts representatives from 31 Division I conferences, identifies important issues surrounding the future of the NCAA. It also provides oversight to several committees including Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee, the Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct Committee, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Committee on Women’s Athletics and all NCAA cabinets.

Alden enters his 13th year at
Missouri and has helped lead the Tiger athletic programs to new heights. The Missouri Football program has advanced to five consecutive bowl games, while Tiger Basketball has won 54 games the last two seasons. Missouri Soccer has won Big 12 crowns in consecutive years and Tiger Softball has advanced to back-to-back Women’s College World Series appearances.

Facility improvements at Mizzou have also been a primary focus for Alden and his staff as better than $165 million in renovations have occurred at the
MizzouSportsPark since his arrival.
